Stravatha is a beautiful stone house on the side of a hill overlooking the sea in north west Zakynthos. It is difficult to see another man-made object from the house. What you'll see are rolling hills, Kefalonia (13 miles away), the sea and the most beautiful sunsets on the whole of Zakynthos. What you will hear are cicadas and distant goat bells. What you'll smell are wild thyme and the scent of warm pine.
We holidayed in the north of Zakynthos in 2000 and loved the place so much that we bought a plot of land in 2002. In 2003 our neighbour and friend, Makis Paganopoulos, helped us to build Stravatha around an old pine tree in the centre of our land. The house is the first 'eco house' on the island and is completely self-sufficient - we harness the sun's energy for all our power and collect the winter rain for all our water. There are lots of projects we still want to undertake with this house [a swimming pool is a way off yet!] but we've spent all our money on building it, so we're taking our time - see news.
In 2005 we decided to start renting the house out in the high season. The first visitors loved it so much that we decided to make the house available for rent between May and October at very reasonable rates. If you like what you see, feel free to get in touch to enquire about availability.
